CHESTERTOWN — Students at H.H. Garnet Elementary School in Chestertown are gearing up for an annual reading celebration.
One School, One Book is a literacy initiative designed to help an entire school community — students and grownups alike — fall in love with books.
The Chestertown Lions Club generously donated the funding to purchase books for the entire school.
Students will learn the book's title at a school-wide kickoff assembly on March 1.
Second through fifth grades will read the same chapter book. Pre-kindergarten through first-grade students will read a companion book.
The books will be sent home March 4, along with comprehension questions for families to ask their child to keep them engaged.
Each night at home, students will read a chapter or two. Every morning at school, there will be a trivia question based on the reading from the night before.
There will be a drawing for prizes for correct answers.
"We encourage the entire family to take part in this initiative," said Heather Davis, the Title I interventionist at Garnet Elementary School. "We’re looking forward to this event!"
